For many of us, the Holidays will be a little different this year, but don't let this take you down - hopefully in the next few months we will start seeing glimpses of a normal life as the first COVID-19 vaccines are released to the public. In the United States, Thanksgiving Day is just around the corner, and if you find yourself isolated or in quarantine, you are welcome to adventure in Second Life® and have hours of fun exploring this virtual world, making friends and go on massive shopping sprees.
Residents are always excited around the Holidays and this year, the community has more reasons to celebrate.
Uplifted to the Cloud
On Thursday, Nov. 19, Linden Lab® completed the Uplift of Second Life® regions to the cloud. The successful transition was announced by Systems Engineering Manager April Linden via Twitter:
It is expected for residents to see improvements on teleport and region crossing features, but project Uplift will continue through the end of the year. The last adjustments and other background systems are yet to be transferred to the WSA Cloud servers in order to complete this 3-year operation.
How this update will affect combat performance remains unanswered. Until the uplift is completed and all the systems are polished, combat-enthusiasts will have to wait a few more months to draw their final conclusions, but an improvement in latency is expected.
