The 18th annual Second Life® birthday celebrations are bittersweet this year. The community mourns the death of Linden Lab® CEO Ebbe Altberg who died Thursday, June 3, 2021 — Vice President of Product Operations Patch Linden announced Altberg’s passing with an emotional post in the Featured News of the Second Life® Community Blog. It is said that Altberg’s cause of death relates to an illness, but this information has not been confirmed.
Remembering Linden Lab® CEO Ebbe Altberg
From his beginnings as the Microsoft product unit manager to Linden Lab® CEO, Altberg is referred by former coworkers as a visionary leader, hard worker, well-rounded manager, genuine and creator of ideas. Patch Linden and the Linden™ team describe the open and transparent Altberg’s work ethic, always encouraging the team to be part of the community and promote what he believed to be the “world’s best virtual world.” Sansar, Tilia and the cloud uplift are some of the well-known projects during his time at the Lab.
Messages lovingly shared in community blogs and social media reveal the grief and love felt at the loss of Ebbe Altberg. Residents are welcome to visit the Ebbe Altberg Memorial site in Second Life® in the Altberg region or at the SLB Impressive region during the 18th annual Second Life® birthday celebrations (SL18B) celebrations and pay their respects.
My deepest sympathies go out to the family and coworkers of Mr. Altberg.
