RIP GENUS?
A well-known store of the Second Life®
community, GENUS Project, closed its doors. Store owners released an
official statement in their Facebook account, but residents can't
help to wonder what is happening behind the curtains. The store
received a Digital Millennium Copyright Act complaint from an unknown
creator, but many suspect the author of the filed complaint might
come from a direct competitor. Oddly enough, the GENUS Project became
very popular in last few weeks due to an exclusive free offer –
other stores were quickly overshadowed as the free mesh head lured
many residents to the brand's main store. In addition, a counter
complaint was filed and the case will continue in court. Although the
brand released a temporary closure notice, nobody knows for sure when
or if GENUS will return.
If you have any GENUS' merchandise in
your inventory, you are not required to delete the items.
The Return of Last Names
Residents can now change their last
names. On Monday, April 13, Linden Lab® released the most-wanted
feature, which residents have been waiting (and requesting) for a
very long time. This is an exclusive perk for Premium Members, but if
you decide to change your surname, be prepared to pay an additional
$39.99. Users are also able to change their first name for the same
fee.
After months of preparation and a
special contest, the final list of surnames is now available at
https://secondlife.com/my/account,
under the “Account” section. Changing display names will continue
to be available for all residents, with no extra charges.
The community's feedback has been both
positive and negative; although many users claim the fee is extremely
high (especially during this time), others are very pleased to see
the feature back in Second Life®.
Fantasy Faire 2020 Update
Mark your calendars for Thursday, April
23 - Fantasy Faire 2020 is almost here, but for now, the community is
invited to nominate their favorite fantasy characters for the roles
of King, Queen and Chancellor of the event. Make sure you read the
rules and submit your favorite fantasy character by Saturday, April
25; previous winners are not eligible for nomination. Nominate HERE.
“This is GOR” Project
If you are a gorean role-player and
most importantly, a combat aficionado, you might want to check out
the “This is GOR” Project. The Gorean map has been recreated by this
series of linked BTB regions in a 24/7 combat zone with active
traffic; Away, OOC or Arena Modes are not allowed in these regions.
Combat should be constant and so is the role-play. To start your
journey, you must join the “This is Gor”group, claim your territory and defend it from intruders. Players are
encouraged to expand their territories and develop their personal
story-lines. Check out the “This is GOR” Project and make sure to
read the rules and all detailed instructions before you actively
engage the game.
