Linden Lab Introduces Tilia

If you think the Linden Lab’s roller coaster is over with, think again – more changes are coming. If you are a resident that withdraws money from Second Life via a US dollar account, you will have to report detailed information to Tilia, a subsidiary of Linden Lab. Starting Aug. 1, 2019, Tilia will manage all users’ USD accounts, and it will be automatically associated with your Second Life account. Customers under 18 years old will not be able to process credit after August 1st.

If you wish to withdraw funds from Second Life, you must provide your name, address, date of birth and social security number or a government-issued identification if you are not a U.S. Citizen. In addition, you may have to provide further information to complete the transaction. This information will be a one-time requirement, which will be securely stored in your account for future transactions. The estimated time to process credit may take up to 30 business days.

Second Life Community Forums’ are currently flooded by questions, uncertainties, and unhappy residents. Forum users are accusing Linden Lab of data mining and how safe is to share personal information in the age of data breaches. Unsatisfied residents also pointed out Tilia’s inactivity fee which will be applied if your account goes inactive.
Linden Lab's official announcement clearly states why Tilia is being introduced in Second Life: "We’re making some important changes to Second Life that will help us comply with U.S. laws and regulations."

All L$ purchases, L$ balances, and use of L$ to pay tier or Premium fees will not be affected by these changes.
